Roderick Beaton is Koraes Professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature, and Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies at King’s College London. He has written widely on Greek literature, culture, and history from the twelfth century to the present. In 2009 he co-edited (with David Ricks) the collection of essays, The Making of Modern Greece: Nationalism, Romanticism, and the Uses of the Past. His most recent books are Byron’s War: Romantic Rebellion, Greek Revolution (2013), The Idea of the Nation in Greek Literature: from Byzantium to Modern Greece (in Greek, 2015) and the translated volume: George Seferis, Novel and Other Poems (2016). He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA) in 2013 and a Fellow of King’s College (FKC) in 2018.
