The collection covers the following fields of knowledge:
Modern Greek History (especially the Revolution of 1821 and Asia Minor Hellenism)
European history, especially the history of Greece, especially the history of the Middle East and the Middle East in general
World History History, including the history of the Islamic peoples
Social and economic history History of the Islamic world; European history of Islamic countries; Islamic history of the Muslim world; Social and economic history; History of international relations
The library’s materials are available for loan, except for the informational (encyclopedias, dictionaries, journals) and rare materials, which can only be studied in the library. The library of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History is located on the 4th floor (room 401) of the new building of the Faculty of Philosophy. The number of books and journals amounts to approximately 18,000 volumes. It also has a fairly large collection of rare books dating back to the 1600s. The library can be used by any citizen, university or non-university, provided that he/she obtains a library card, which is valid throughout the library system of the University of Thessaloniki and is issued by the thematic library of the Faculty of Philosophy.
The library has an It corner where anyone can do research, having access to electronic sources of information, bibliographic databases, electronic journals, etc.
